Heavy rain central & eastern Europe; snow in the mountains

Sunday
High pressure influences western Europe, whilst a deep area of low pressure lies across the east, resulting in a strong northerly flow into central countries. A cold front moves into central & eastern Europe, bringing showery bursts of rain, and snowfalls to the Alps & Carpathian Mountains. Rain advances into the Balkans. A cold wind for Germany, Poland and much of Scandinavia, risk of gales. Snow may fall to increasingly low levels in Poland later, feeding in from the Baltic. Snow showers for northern Norway. Largely dry for Sweden, but unsettled around the Baltic.
Sunny and warm for Spain and Portugal, into the upper 20s Celsius in the south-west. Mainly fair across the Mediterranean, with isolated showers. Dry and sunny in Greece. A strong Mistral wind for southern France. Northern Italy is likely to be very warm, locally 25C to the lee of the mountains. Patchy rain for central France, but brighter toward the north. Sunny spells and a chilly wind for the Low Countries.

Monday
High pressure remains in charge across western Europe. A north-easterly flow for France and Iberia, which promotes very warm temperatures again in south-west Spain and Portugal, topping 25C. Much cooler on the Biscay coast, around 15C here. Windy for southern France, but lighter winds a fine day for northern France. A shallow area of low pressure over Italy may trigger a few showers. Scattered showers across south-eastern Europe. Sunshine for Greece . Low pressure lies across eastern Europe and western Russia, bringing windy and unsettled conditions. Wintry showers for Ukraine, Belarus, northern Romania and eastern Poland - in places snow may fall and lie to low levels. A few showers for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but Hungary and the Alps should be dry. Bright but cool for Germany and southern Scandinavia. Snow showers again for northern Norway, but much of Sweden stays dry. Sub-zero across the far north.
