Settled, dry and bright for many
Wintry showers for Scandinavia

Issued: 0530hrs Tuesday 26th February 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Continuing settled, dry and bright for much of Europe as high pressure continues to dominate through the coming days. Low pressure systems will edge around the periphery of the high bringing wintry showers that will affect Scandinavia and southeastern parts of Europe too

Tuesday
Tuesday stays mostly bright and dry for Iberia though a band of cloud will move into western areas through the morning and linger through the day. Plenty of sunshine for the Balearics, Corsica, Sardinia and Italy. Winds easing for Greece and Turkey and, once morning showers clear away from Crete and the southern part of Turkey, it will be a dry day with good spells of sunshine.
Morning mist and fog patches for France, Benelux, Germany, Poland, Austria, Switzerland and Hungary. These will clear though to leave a dry and bright day though there is a risk of some light showers developing over southern Poland through the afternoon and eastern Austria through the evening.
A dry and bright day for Denmark on Tuesday. Snow showers may affect eastern parts of the Baltics through the morning but these should clear to the southeast leaving a mixture of cloudy skies and sunny spells. A mixture of cloudy skies and sunny spells too for Finland and Sweden with a chance of wintry showers in the north. Dry but cloudy for southern Norway while northern areas could see some heavy spells of rain.

Wednesday
Cloud lingers over western Iberia through Wednesday morning and will thicken enough to give some rain over northern Portugal and northwestern Spain through the afternoon. Across the rest of Spain, the Balearics, Corsica, Sardinia and Italy it will be a dry and mostly bright day. There will be some showers around on Wednesday for southern and eastern parts of Greece while there will be a chance of wintry showers over much of Turkey.
Another fine and settled day across western Europe as high pressure stays in control. A similar day to Tuesday for France, the Low Countries, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland: a few morning most and fog patches which will clear to give a dry and mostly bright day.
Another dry and bright day too for Denmark while the Baltic States will be a little more overcast. Estonia has the highest chance of catching a rain shower. A couple of bands of snow will move eastward across northern parts of Finland through the day but it will remain dry, if a little overcast in the south. A mostly dry and bright day for southern Sweden but cloud increasing further to the north while heavy rain and snow will continue to affect western and northern Norway but it will remain drier and brighter in the south and southeast.
