Increasingly dry and fine

Issued: 0530hrs Monday 4th February 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

As an area of high pressure builds over central Europe it will become increasingly dry and fine for an area centred around the central Alps. Some stormy conditions for the central and eastern Mediterranean through the coming days.

Monday
Mostly dry and bright for Portugal and Spain through Monday. Cloud could start building from the west through the afternoon bringing some rain to northern parts of Spain by the evening. Dry and bright too for the Balearics and for the northern half of Italy. Southern Italy will see some showers through the day turning to heavy and prolonged rainfall by the evening. It will be a showery day for Greece while Turkey should stay mostly dry but overcast.
An overcast day for France and the Low Countries as a band of rain slowly works its way southeastward through the morning and into the afternoon. Southeastern France should stay mostly dry. A mostly dry and fair day too for Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Poland as high pressure builds over central Europe.
Scattered wintry showers for Denmark first thing on Monday before a band of more persistent rain moves in from the west. A band of snow will move north through the Baltics and northern Finland leaving behind a rather overcast but dry afternoon. A mostly dry and bright day for Sweden though wintry showers could creep into southwestern areas through the afternoon and a dry and bright morning for Norway before a band of snow moves into southern parts of the country by the early afternoon.

Tuesday
Continuing dry and bright across much of Iberia on Tuesday while any early morning cloud over the Balearics, Corsica and Sardinia will clear to leave a dry and bright day. Rain should ease over the southern tip of Italy through the morning and cloud will move to the south through the day to leave a mostly dry and bright afternoon. A cloudy morning for Greece where heavy bursts of rain will develop over southern areas during the afternoon while Turkey will be cloudy but should stay mostly dry.
High pressure continues to build over central Europe on Tuesday bringing a dry and fine day for most of the region. The best of the brightness will be for southern Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the Czech Republic. Around the periphery of this area it will be somewhat overcast but mostly dry.
A dry and mostly fine day for Denmark on Tuesday while the Baltic states too will be dry but rather cloudy. A band of light snow and rain over southern Sweden through Tuesday morning will move into southern Finland through Tuesday afternoon leaving behind a spell of bright and dry weather for Sweden. Mostly dry and bright for Norway with an increasing risk of snow showers further to the north.
