Cold and wintry for much of Europe, windy in places too


Friday
Low pressure develops and moves quickly south & east across the Alps into northern Italy in the early hours of Friday. Areas of heavy rain or showers affect central & southern Italy, whilst rain and snow sweeps into the Balkans and Hungary. Gales for southern France and the western Mediterranean. Greece, Turkey and the eastern Med will be dry with sunshine. A cool northerly breeze affects Iberia, bringing showers to the Biscay coast, but southern Spain and Portugal stay sunny and fairly mild. A cold north-westerly wind affects France, and bands of heavy wintry showers will affect north-east France and the Low Countries. Clusters of snow showers clear east from Germany in the morning, but will affect Poland much of the day. Low pressure remains centred broadly over Scandinavia. Snow showers in western Norway, whilst much of Sweden will be dry and cold. Snow flurries in Finland, and some heavier falls moving into the Baltic states.


Saturday
Some rain in northern and eastern Spain, drier to the west with sunny spells in Portugal. Cold with rain in the Balearics, Corsica and Sardinia. Italy stays chilly with showers, some heavy. Further showers and sunny spells in Greece with Turkey staying cold and wet to the west but drier in the east.
Cold with a band of rain, sleet and snow spreading south throughFrance. Windy and cold with wintry showers in the Low Countries and northern Germany. Drier in southern Germany but staying cold here. Mostly dry and cold in Poland. Wintry showers in Austria and Hungary as well as Switzerland.
Cold with strong winds and wintry showers in Denmark. Sunny spells and isolated showers affecting the Baltic States. Heavier wintry showers for Finland and staying cold here too. Scattered snow showers for Sweden but more persistent snow showers in Norway.
