Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Windy, cool & showery north-central Europe

Saturday
High pressure is centred around the Bay of Biscay, whilst shallow areas of low pressure influence central Europe. A dry and warm day for Spain and Portugal, around 30C for southern Costas. Cool on the Biscay coast, with a brisk easterly breeze. Fair weather for much of France, although a weak cold front brings cloud and patchy rain to central-northern areas. A strong mistral wind for southern France and the western Alps. Clusters of thundery showers affect the southern Alps, northern Italy and the Balkans. Southern Italy and much of Greece stay dry and warm. Dry too around the Black Sea. Thundery rain for Cyprus.
Low pressure over southern Scandinavia brings rain and gusty winds to northern-central Europe - a cold front passes south across Germany during the day. Some sunshine for eastern Europe, although rain affects northern Poland, and spreads into the Czech Republic from the west. Rain and snow for the far south of Sweden and Norway. Dry and cold for northern Scandinavia, daytime temperatures staying close to freezing.

Sunday
Another dry, sunny and warm day for the Iberian peninsula, with temperatures topping 30C in southern Portugal and south-west Spain. Cooler on the Biscay coast. Dry for the western Mediterranean and France, although a mistral wind continues. A complex zone of low pressure affects Italy and the Balkans, bringing heavy rain and thunder, although temperatures generally warm. A few showers for Greece and Turkey, although the Greek islands should stay dry. A cold front pushes east across eastern Europe, with persistent rain affecting Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine. Ahead of the rain, it will reach 23C around the Black Sea. Showery and cool across Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, highs just 8 to 11C. Dry much of the day for the Low Countries, although rain develops later. Scattered snow showers for Norway and Sweden, but northern Scandinavia and areas around the Baltic should stay dry - but remaining cold.
